Terms of Service
These terms describe how Margin may be used and what you and we are each responsible for.
Version 2026-08-28 · Effective August 28, 2026
1. The service
Margin is a web application for restaurant operators. It helps you record ingredient purchase costs, build recipes, price menu items, log vendor invoices, take inventory counts, import or sync point-of-sale data, and read the resulting profitability figures.
These Terms are an agreement between you and the operator of the service. By creating an account, agreeing at signup, or continuing to use the service, you accept them.
2. Eligibility and your account
The service is intended for business use by people who are old enough to enter a contract in their jurisdiction. It is not designed or marketed for children.
You are responsible for the accuracy of your account details, for keeping your password and session secure, and for everything done under your account. Tell us promptly if you believe an account has been used without permission.
3. Your restaurant data
The information you enter or upload — ingredients, vendors, recipes, menus, invoices and invoice files, counts, waste logs and sales records — remains yours. You grant us only the permission needed to host, process and display it back to you and to the teammates you authorize, and to operate and support the service.
You are responsible for having the right to submit that information, including anything that appears on a vendor document you upload.
4. Team access
A restaurant can have owners, managers and staff. Owners control who is invited and what role each person holds. Roles determine what a member can see and change.
Inviting someone means giving them access to that restaurant's data at their role's level. Review your member list regularly and remove people who should no longer have access.
5. Point-of-sale and third-party integrations
The service can connect to third-party point-of-sale providers, currently Toast and Square, to import sales data. Connecting one means authorizing us to retrieve sales information on your behalf using the credentials or tokens you provide or grant.
Those providers are independent of us. Their availability, data accuracy, API behavior and terms are outside our control, and their own agreements govern your relationship with them. We may change or remove an integration if a provider changes its platform.
The service also depends on third-party infrastructure providers for hosting, database, authentication and file storage. An outage or change at one of those providers can affect the service.
6. Export and deletion
An owner can export a restaurant's business data as a set of CSV files with a JSON manifest. Credentials and security tokens are excluded from exports by design.
An owner can permanently delete a restaurant, which removes its records and its uploaded invoice files. You can also delete your own account, which removes your profile, memberships and legal acceptance records. Deletion is irreversible; export first if you want a copy.
You cannot delete your account while you are the only owner of a restaurant that still exists — transfer ownership or delete the restaurant first.
7. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- access data belonging to another account or attempt to bypass access controls
- probe, scan or interfere with the service, or disrupt it for other users
- upload malicious code, or content you do not have the right to upload
- reverse engineer or copy the software except where the law permits it
- resell or make the service available to others outside your restaurant's authorized members
8. Ownership
The Margin software, interface, branding and underlying models are ours. These Terms give you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the service while your account is active. Your data remains yours, as described above.
9. Feedback
If you send us suggestions or feedback, you allow us to use them to operate and improve the service without obligation or payment to you. You do not have to send feedback.
10. Insights are informational
Cost figures, margins, recommended prices, variance numbers, alerts and insights are calculated from the data in your account. They are informational only. They are not financial, accounting, tax or legal advice, and they are not a guarantee of any business outcome.
Numbers are only as good as the inputs. Check them against your own records before making a pricing, purchasing or staffing decision.
11. Availability and changes
We may add, change or remove features, and we may perform maintenance that makes the service temporarily unavailable. We do not promise uninterrupted availability.
We may update these Terms. When a change is material we will publish a new version, and you will be asked to accept it before continuing to use the product.
12. Suspension and termination
You may stop using the service at any time and delete your account. We may suspend or terminate access if these Terms are breached, if use of the service creates a security or legal risk, or if we are required to do so.
Sections that by their nature should survive termination — ownership, disclaimers, limitation of liability and dispute resolution — continue to apply.
13. Disclaimers
The service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be error-free, uninterrupted, or that any calculation will match your accounting records.
14. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost revenue, lost data or business interruption, arising from your use of the service.
Where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability for all claims relating to the service is limited to the greater of the amounts you paid us for the service in the twelve months before the claim, or one hundred United States dollars.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
15. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from third-party claims arising out of your data, your use of the service in breach of these Terms, or your violation of law or of another person's rights.
